About Healthcare Hygiene magazine

Healthcare Hygiene magazine was launched during Infection Prevention Week in October 2019. Despite a global pandemic and the clinical and economic upheaval it created, the publication continues to deliver in-depth reporting on issues that matter to the infection prevention community. Now in its seventh year, HHM may be reimagining its website, but its editorial integrity has not changed; we are non-commercial in tone, focused in scope, and dedicated to addressing issues that other publications won’t pursue, all in the effort to help practitioners move the needle on the perennial issues impacting IPC.

Meet the editor and publisher of Healthcare Hygiene magazine

Kelly M. Pyrek has more than 35 years of publishing and media experience, with the last 27 years devoted to the infection prevention sector. She is the former editor-in-chief of Infection Control Today for almost 20 years and founded Healthcare Hygiene magazine after seeing too many publications become overly commercialized and sacrificing unbiased content in exchange for advertising support. She believes that members of industry can achieve their marketing and branding objectives through a different approach, one that leads with the science and the standards, and invites readers to be part of the solution together. She welcomes the opportunity to discuss with industry members how Healthcare Hygiene magazine can help them achieve their education, branding and marketing objectives.

An avid nature afficionado (as her photo attests), Kelly is also the daughter of a nurse who spent more than 30 years as an infection preventionist, so she is highly attuned to the issues that IPs and other healthcare stakeholders care about most. A Colorado resident, you’ll find her on the trails when she isn’t at her keyboard. She welcomes the chance to discuss with readers the issues they care about most so that Healthcare Hygiene magazine may continue to be the preferred platform for all things infection prevention. Redefining content priorities and creating a paradigm shift

THE CONTENT ADVANTAGE. We provide a refreshing alternative to the media status quo by focusing on the science over the selling, ensuring that content is free from commercial overtones and bias that can cause readers and users to tune out. Instead, we partner with clinical experts and industry members to tell rich, compelling, data-driven scientific stories through our premium programs and continuing education coursework; we partner with industry intelligently to better serve the education and information needs of our shared customers — the sophisticated clinical end user.

We believe it is critical to present research data as it becomes available, and cultivate a publishing model that is a faster way to present the science to the healthcare professional who needs it; real-world healthcare settings require immediate solutions and cannot wait years for guidelines and the literature.

Our dynamic website provides news, features and other content daily, while serving as the platform through which our digital magazine and premium programs such as case studies and webinars, are delivered.

Our content has a strong underpinning of microbiology and translational research. We specialize in journalistic endeavor with integrity; our in-depth articles reflect current guidelines/recommendations, the medical literature, and perspectives from key thought leaders and scientific experts.

In every issue, you can count on Healthcare Hygiene magazine to deliver in-depth analysis of the imperatives impacting IPC in acute-care, ambulatory care, long-term care and other healthcare-delivery settings. But unlike our competitors in the space, we stopped creating a monthly editorial calendar that presents only a narrow opportunity for industry members to leverage through advertising. Instead, we encourage our industry partners to view our brand as a comprehensive platform reaching across channels, and a platform through which to position their education messages. It’s a different strategy that aligns with our policy of providing objective, non-commercial content that educates and informs, and which discerning industry partners leverage to see increased and meaningful ROI.

THE METRIC ADVANTAGE. Healthcare Hygiene magazine’s monthly issues are digital-only because they afford tracking and cumulative metrics around reader/user engagement. Healthcare Hygiene magazine’s special editions are the best of digital and print, and focus on timely and topical imperatives around key industry trade shows and other opportunities such as releases of emerging trends, new/updated guidelines, underserved topics of interest, etc.

THE READERSHIP ADVANTAGE. Healthcare Hygiene magazine’s circulation represents a diverse mix of stakeholders united in upholding the principles of infection prevention and patient/healthcare professional safety. Readers/website users come from all sectors: infection prevention, healthcare epidemiology, quality/safety/risk management, healthcare value analysis, scientific R&D, manufacturing, biomedical engineering, and regulatory/ compliance/accreditation. Our audience is cultivated carefully and thoughtfully – through organic growth, social media/networking sites and structured outreach — so that it is a 100 percent opt-in proposition that delivers highly qualified, discerning and interested influencers and decision-makers to your technology/service.

THE INNOVATION ADVANTAGE. Healthcare Hygiene magazine serves our community in these strategic ways:

  • Promotes intelligent discourse on infection prevention and control-directed imperatives shaping healthcare delivery.
  • Unites the clinical community with industry R&D and scientific affairs entities and regulatory bodies.
  • Facilitates the exchange of ideas and solutions aimed at the most critical issues facing healthcare professionals and the C-suite.
  • Provides a platform for the promotion of new research and data that addresses current gaps in knowledge and implementation of best practices.
  • Drives innovation in content and special programs designed to educate healthcare stakeholders around product evaluation and purchasing.
